Mosques (Masajid and Jawame’)

A mosque is a place of worship for Muslims, where the obligatory prayers are held, and other prayers, such as Nawafl and Sunan. They are called “Masajid” because they are built for prostration to Allah (Sujood), and (Jawame’) because people gather in there for Friday prayers. (Yajtame’ means to gather). In the Old Town, 39 mosques, the most famous of them are Khan al- Zayt, Khan al-Sultan, and Bani Hassan Mosques.
